Artist Inspiration
Planning
Once I had found the inspiration for my piece I then started to research references online to be able to guide myself because if I were not to guide myself then the piece would have came out un-proportional. I have found a couple of references in where I was going to use as part of my piece. I decided to sketch some of the references in order to see how they would have turned out. In my first sketch I decided to go with the idea of using the woman as part of my project. I wanted to be able to incorporate something different with my portrait but was not sure exactly what it would be. So I just drew a woman to at least have the basics of the painting. In my second sketch I decided to use more I decided to add more detail to the sketch. While doing details I realized that because it if fauvism it would be harder to incorporate and paint any detail. In my third sketch I decided to draw another sketch of a woman to be able to see two examples of woman that I could draw in my canvas. This time I did not add detail because to me it would be harder to me to paint in. |
Process
Before even starting my project I decided to look at my sketches in order to figure out which one I wanted to do and so I decided to have the hand movement from the first sketch because it was what I had in mind with my project, but also have him looking away because it would have been the best fit for my piece, and also because when you are vulnerable you are more shy and scared. At first it was a bit hard to work with to position the woman correctly in the canvas as I did in the sketch.
As I started my project I decided to gesso my canvas since I accidentally bought a canvas without gesso. So I decided to give it a thick layer of gesso so I would not need another coat and have it warp my actual piece. Once gessoing my painting I decided to let it dry and continue to think about the color scheme within my painting. Once doing so I then started with the outline of the inner face by this I mean the eyes, nose and the mouth. Because this painting is going to have thick brush strokes I did not add any detail. Once the sketch was done with I decided to start coloring the actual piece so I decided to gather all of my acrylic paintings. I started out by coloring in the face first once I finished, I decided to move on to the the eyes and then the mouth. With the background I decided to paint it an orange brown with a mixture of white as well.

Experimentation
I do believe that the there were certain parts in the project that I had experimented with. This would be that I have not painted a favist painting in a long time that to me it was like a first experience withthe painting technique.

Reflection
I noticed that when positioning my character in my painting was difficult, especially becasue I am not the best with side view face positioning.

Critic/ compare and contrast
Critic:
Overall I was pleased with how my piece came out a couple of things that I would change would be to be able to try and fix my brush strokes.
Compare and Contrast:
One of the main things that it is noticeable with my inspirations and my piece would be that both use the favist movement of the portraits as well as the use the similar colors.
