In the painting Blossom I was inspired by Jacqueline de Leon. I used many of her paintings as an inspiration due to the detailed backgrounds that she usually creates. Like many of her paintings I also wanted to include more of a nature aspect.

Sketch #1
Since I really already had an idea of what exactly I wanted to create, my sketches where about trying to figure out her facial expressions. For most part I wanted to incorporate my main theme which was portrait. In this sketch the girl is sitting in a stool and I wanted to have the background with a blossom tree. I wanted to be able to depict the purity with the blossoms.

Sketch #2
In my second sketch I decided to give it detail to the facial expression and so I decided to sketch out many faces by reference. This was done in different color pencils becasue I am most comfortable with the use of color pencils for sketching. Once I was confotable with freely sketching faces I decided to start sketching the face I wanted which was in a sticky not posted in the sketch above.

Process
Before I started to paint with my water colors I decide to sketch out my painting I decided not to add the houses in the back becasue it was not part of my focal point so I decided not to include it. I decided to get a cup of water and started to get my paints activated to start painting. Due to the fact that I have not used water colors in such a long time it was something that I was not used to. Blending the colors to create the skin tone was more difficult than expected due to the lack of knowledge. After painting I decided to outline and for outlining I used a Micron pen It was the right amount of thinnes in order to get the fine lines. I started to only outline the wooded fence but after doing so I decided to go ahead and outline her face and after that I just finished it by outlining her whole body.
Experiment
I have used water colors before like towards the middle of freshman year, but not in a way to blend in skin tones so that was a challenge, I was experimenting with water colors due to the lack of knowledge that I have. I decided to look up YouTube videos to help me out but no matter how many videos I looked up it was hard to go along with them I just ended blending one but not adding depth or anything for that matter in the painting.
Reflection
One of the thing that I noticed in my painting was that it did not have as much depth as I wanted it to. It could be becasue I was not as much experienced with watercolors than with other mediums. It was harder becasue the paint was really watery and I was stressing with messing up that I did not put so much depth in the painting. As well as I wasnt the sure which one were complimentary colors to one another so adding the shadowing to the face and overal was a bit harder that I had expected.
Critic/ Compare and Contrast
Critic:
Overall I was pleased with how my piece came out a couple of things that I would change would be to be able to try and be able to figure out the right way to use watercolors.
Compare and Contrast:
One of the main things that it is noticeable with my inspirations and my painting would be that both the use of plants to reflect the meaning. In all the pieces you can see the vulnerability of a reflection of the actual plants.
