Artist Inspiration
Planning
Once introduced to the project I was a not sure on what I wanted to do and how was I going to connect it to my theme that I have which is self image. I was looking and looking and could not think of anything in particular that can show my theme but also have a story behind it. I came across an article of models that go through eating problems to reach the expectations of the fashion industry. So I regarded the whole idea of a model and focus more on the confidence that a model delivers. So the base of my idea had started and that was that I wanted to be able to portray a woman that is admired for her confidence. With this already in mind I decided to search for inspiration, that’s when I came across a painting by Thomas Lawrence called Pinkie this painting reminded me of what I wanted to portray specially after reading the background story of the painting. I also came across another painting called Mary Magdalene by Leonardo da Vinci this painting was the painting I was looking for because Mary was able to show her confidence semi naked and I wanted to portray that. As I kept planning as to what exactly I wanted to achieve with this painting I decided to come back to the idea of a model.
When the MIAD teacher came in I shared with him my ideas and where I wanted to go with my illustrations he helped me out by telling me I was able to improve on my illustration. This helped me because with a concrete idea of what I had in mind of doing.

Process
Once I had chosen that I was going with the idea I decided to start with a couple of my sketches. While creating this sketches I was not as detail as I would have wished for the simple reason that I wanted to be able to produce my illustrations before the instructor from MIAD would have arrived. My illustrations were able to help me chose the one that represented my idea the best and because they were both a bit different it was kinda hard to chose which one was going to be the best. Once I had chosen which one I had liked the best I had decided that I was going to go with the run way model sketch. After the meeting with the instructor of MIAD I was able to discuss my ideas with this project he had helped me by giving me advice to add almost a sentimental value now this was said because as it was previously mentioned, when viewing a model they usually display this confident woman that knows how to do her job. With this being said he advised me to add people looking up to her and to also have them taking pictures. I was also advised that I should put a girl taking a picture because it show a sentimental value from persona that admires this big icon in the fashion world. I took all his advice and added it to my piece, once it was sketched I decided to paint the illustrations and I used both acrylic paints as well as markers.
Experimentation
In these illustrations I wanted to do something I was always mainly scared about which was markers. There was a point in my life were I used to love coloring with markers but now I don't mainly because they can look messy if not used properly. So I wanted to use markers in this illustration because I wanted to see how the piece was going to come out as if I were to use markers.
Reflection
Through out the project I noticed some of the things I could have changed for example in this painting was to not use markers I felt that it almost gave it a messy look. I am not mad at it due to the fact that I was re-entering the world of markers. I was afraid to use markers in previous artworks due to the fact that it has a messy look to it, yet I decided to take the risk they aren’t good markers but I tried to make it work as much as I could. Overall in this illustration I actually liked the messy look to it, it kinda Maude the piece flow nicely which I enjoyed.
Critic / Compare and Contrast
Critic
When doing my positive illustration something that I had noticed was that the marker that I had used was creating almost of a messy look. Yet I felt like the Piece was tied together with the messy view. Because the acrylic had made the piece look almost flat.
Compare and Contrast
In the Pinkie by Thomas you can see that the girl is almost floating and standing strong in the front as well and my girl in my illustration she is standing in the front strong. They both give almost like a confident aspect to the piece which is something I was trying to achieve. The difference between the two would be that Pinkie is floating in the sky almost because she passed away before the portrait was even finished.

ACT Questions
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause effect relationship between your inspiration and its effect on your artwork?
Due to the fact that my thematic concept for my pieces is self image, I wanted to create a story that depicts a confident woman who is admirable by a great amount of people. And because I based my illustration to the painting Pinkie by Thomas she was strong and was fighting through an illness.
What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
My overall approach with my illustration was to tell the story of a model. It has come to view that many models go through anorexia to achieve the standers that many of the fashionistas want. I wanted to portray a confident woman that is commonly see in the runway.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
With the research that I had done I was able to conclude that the paintings and the posters were trying to interpret woman in a positive way. Especially in the poster because it was made to influence woman to work for jobs that men would work but because most of the men were sent to war they needed the people for industrialization.
What is the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?.
My thematic concept would be self image and in the painting Pinkie it was about her so it ties in to my actual illustration as well as the poster displays woman to see themselves to work the same amount as men would.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
Some of the inferences that I had while reading was that Pinkie was someone special to the Thomas. I would have never thought that the background of the sky and clouds would be because she had died before they finished her portrait.
